To treat a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then "fill" the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed.
Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).
Composite fillings are long-lasting and sturdy, and the white "composite resin" blends in seamlessly with your natural teeth. If there is a lot of tooth structure lost, we may offer porcelain inlay/onlays, which are stronger than resin (lab manufactured).
Composite tooth-colored fillings usually require just one visit.
First, your tooth is examined to determine the repair needed.
Then a composite resin is matched to your natural tooth color to make your new tooth fillings match the color of your existing teeth.
The cavity/unhealthy tooth structure is removed, the remaining tooth is prepared and the composite resin is replaced or shaped. A special light will be used to harden or “cure” the composite resin.
